Welcome Spring…and Spring Cleaning!

The birds are chirping, the weather is turning, and many of us have one clear goal in mind – spring cleaning! Even though it’s a great time of year to take stock of our homes and offices to start decluttering, it can be a difficult endeavour for many people. To start, it can be difficult to know where to start. 2020 was a challenging year, and we should all be forgiven for having less motivation than usual, but even in the best of years breaking the winter funk and reorganizing our home and workplaces can feel overwhelming. Add to that how emotionally connected we can become to our things (even if they’re collecting dust), and taking the first steps to spring cleaning can feel monumental. At the 24 Hour Junk Team, we’re here to help you take those first steps to eliminating the chaos that clutter can be!

So, with that in mind, we have a series of manageable steps that will help you efficiently clear clutter and reclaim your space. Just one small step puts you on the path to a clean and organize home or office.

Planning

First, decide where you want to tackle your spring cleaning project. Maybe your main goal is the garage or storage space, or maybe you have a bigger vision in mind. Whatever your goals, you can make a start by devising a clear plan. List and prioritize the rooms that need to be organized. Then, expand on that list by identifying which items you want to keep, remove, or review.

Start Simple

Next, start to organize the space that poses the least challenges. For example, if you know that your storage closet is your personal junk yard, you may find it easiest to declutter that space because there is less to organize or even less emotional attachment. On the other hand, if you know you feel overwhelmed by a space or a room, save it for last. Let the momentum of successful spring cleaning propel you so you have more motivation as you make progress.

Obvious Removal Items

Room by room and space by space, start eliminating the items that are obvious for removal first. This will clear up space so that you can dig a little deeper to the stuff you feel more connected to or you are unsure if you may need in the future. A quick rule of thumb – if something has been stowed away in a cupboard, drawer, or box for more than a year, you can probably junk it.

Seek Support

Finally, there are probably many items that you know you want to remove, but you also know are still useful. Alternatively, there are some things that need to be recycled and other things that need to go to landfill. When you work with the 24 Hour Junk Team, we can take the headache out of sorting your removal items. We’ll automatically deliver landfill items, recyclables, and reusable items to the most appropriate destinations.

Most importantly, remember that spring cleaning is a process, so give yourself time and don’t be afraid to tackle your cleaning one step at a time. You’ll be decluttered in no time!
